If multiplying by 8 seems hard, we have some strategies to help you! 8s facts can be really challenging for students to remember. It’s one of the last fact families that students memorize fully!
But multiplication fluency is really important. Students will use it in ALL of their future math classes!
As a full-time tutor, multiplication practice is one of the most requested skills to go over during sessions.

Hey everyone! I have another multiplication trick for you, and I’m so excited to show you this. I just learned it the other day—it’s a neat little trick for multiplying by eight.

As you can see, I have all of my 8 facts listed out. The trick is this: we start with the number 8 in the tens place, and then we’re going to count down. But here’s the key—we’re going to list the number four times in a row, twice.

Now, for the ones place, I start at 0 and count up by twos. When I get to 8, I just start over again at 0.

And there you go! You can see that these are all the correct products for the 8 times tables. I hope you like this trick—thanks for watching!
